The Election Commission (EC) continued its appeal hearings against returning officers' decisions relating to nomination papers for the 13th Jatiya Sangsad election on the seventh day on Friday, approving 18 appeals while rejecting 21 and keeping four pending judgment.
The hearings, which began at 3:00pm at the EC auditorium in Agargaon, Dhaka, are being conducted by the full commission under Chief Election Commissioner A M M Nasir Uddin to review cases filed by candidates challenging both acceptance and cancellation decisions.
On Friday, the EC heard a total of 43 appeals. Of these, 18 appeals lodged against the cancellation of nomination papers were accepted. Meanwhile, 17 appeals on similar cancellation issues were rejected.
Additionally, four appeals challenging the validity of accepted nomination papers were dismissed, with four others reserved for future judgment due to legal complexities.
