Police recovered the decomposed bodies of a mother and her 14-year-old daughter from a private tutor's flat in Keraniganj, on the outskirts of Dhaka, on Thursday evening.
The bodies of Rokeya Rahman and her daughter Fatema were found around 9:00pm in a second-floor flat of a five-storey building owned by Shamim Mia in the Muktirbagh area of Kalindi Union. Rokeya's body was discovered under a bed, while Fatema's was recovered from the bathroom roof.
In connection with the case, police have detained four individuals for questioning: the flat's resident private tutor Nusrat Mim (24), her husband Humayun (30), and two others, Nurjahan (15) and Mahi (11).
According to the building owner, Humayun, a painter, and Nusrat Mim had rented the flat about two and a half months ago. Residents reported a strong foul smell around the area for several days, initially thought to be garbage. The stench intensified Thursday afternoon, prompting them to alert the authorities.
When residents asked Mim to open the flat, she refused. Police later entered and discovered the partially decomposed bodies. Investigators suspect the victims were murdered around 22 days ago and the bodies deliberately concealed.
