Adviser to Ministry of Housing and Public Works, Industries and Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives, Adilur Rahman Khan, on Saturday said that no one can violate Bangladesh’s borders if the public and security forces remain vigilant and united.

He made the remarks while addressing questions from journalists during a visit to Cox’s Bazar.

The adviser was at Rain Water Reservoir project at Anjumanpara under Palongkhali union of Ukhiya upazila in the district, inspecting the ongoing initiative to provide safe drinking water to local communities.

He commented in response to recent incidents, including a school student, Afnan, injured by gunfire from across the Myanmar border and Mohammad Hanif, who lost a leg due to a landmine explosion.

Adilur highlighted that the influx of Rohingya refugees has intensified the water crisis in Ukhiya and Teknaf.

“Considering local population’s water needs, the government initiated the Rain Water Reservoir project. Once operational, it will provide safe and clean water, significantly alleviating the crisis,” he said.

He further stressed the importance of unity and alertness: “The people of Bangladesh and our security forces are always vigilant. Everyone must remain conscious and united to protect the nation’s borders and sovereignty.” He expressed optimism that such vigilance would help deter foreign aggression.

On the political front, the adviser urged citizens to participate in the upcoming February 12 referendum, calling it a reflection of national unity and public voice and encouraged everyone to vote ‘Yes’ to safeguard the country’s independence and sovereignty.

During the visit, Adilur toured various facilities of the rainwater reservoir project, meeting officials and staff involved in its implementation.

Earlier in the day, he also inspected several development projects in Kutupalong Rohingya Camp-4 and other camps in Ukhiya, funded by ADB and implemented by Department of Public Health Engineering, engaging with camp officials and representatives of various NGOs providing services there.
