Adviser to Ministry of Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Supradip Chakma on Saturday called on voters to cast a ‘Yes’ vote in the referendum to be held alongside the 13th National Parliament election, urging mass participation to help build a “new Bangladesh”.
Speaking at an opinion-sharing meeting on referendum campaigning and voter motivation, organised by Rangamati district administration at deputy commissioner’s (DC) conference hall in the afternoon, Supradip said advisers were actively campaigning across the country not only for the election but also for the referendum.
He stressed that ensuring victory for the ‘Yes’ vote was a collective responsibility in the process of national reconstruction.
Presided over by Rangamati Deputy Commissioner Nazma Ashrafi, the meeting was attended by Additional Police Secretary of the Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Ministry Md Monirul Islam, Rangamati Hill District Council Chairman Agriculturist Kajal Talukder, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration Toufiq Imam, Superintendent of Police Mohammad Abdur Rakib, Civil Surgeon Dr Nuyen Khisa, Rangamati Press Club President Anwar Al Haque and officials from various government departments.
The adviser said the referendum aims to produce positive outcomes, noting that the proposed national charter reflects the aspirations shaped by the July mass uprising.
Acknowledging that the questions in the referendum are complex and difficult for many to fully grasp, he said voters ultimately face a simple choice; ‘Yes’ or ‘No’.
Emphasising the campaign message, he urged that voters be encouraged to support the ‘Yes’ option, whether or not they fully understand every detail, adding that mobilising and motivating voters in this regard was the responsibility of officials and stakeholders involved.
He also stressed that rebuilding the state and its institutional framework requires collective effort rather than individual action.
Later, the adviser inaugurated a joint campaign and voter awareness drive in the district administration premises through a car caravan under the slogan, “Referendum 2026: The key to the country is in your hands,” formally launching the referendum promotion activities in Rangamati.
