27 candidates file nomination papers in 4 Jhenaidah seats

JHENAIDAH, Dec 31: A total of 27 candidates from different political parties and independents have submitted nomination papers to contest the upcoming 13th Jatiya Sangsad elections in four constituencies of Jhenaidah.
On Monday, the final day for submission, candidates filed their papers at the office of the district returning officer and at upazila-level assistant returning offices amid a festive atmosphere.
In Jhenaidah-1 (Shailkupa), six candidates submitted papers: Jamaat's ASM Motiur Rahman, Islami Andolan's Md Alam Biswas, Jatiya Party's Monika Alam, BSD (Marxist)'s Shahidul Enam Pallab Mia, Khelafat Majlis's Md Asaduzzaman, and AB Party's Md Motiar Rahman. BNP's nominated candidate, former attorney general Md Asaduzzaman, had filed his papers a day earlier.
In Jhenaidah-2 (Sadar-Harinakundu), six candidates filed papers: BNP's Md Abdul Majid, Jamaat's Ali Azam Mohammad Abu Bakar, Islami Andolan's HM Momtazur Rahman, Jatiya Party's Saugatul Islam, Communist Party's Md Abu Toyab, and BSD's Asadul Islam Asad.
In Jhenaidah-3 (Maheshpur-Kotchandpur), five candidates submitted papers: BNP's Mohammad Mehedi Hasan, Jamaat's Prof Motiar Rahman, Islami Andolan's Maulana Sarwar Hossain, Ganodhikar Parishad's Md Suman Kabir, and AB Party's Mujahidul Islam.
In Jhenaidah-4 (Kaliganj and part of Sadar), ten candidates filed papers, including BNP's Rashed Khan, independents Saiful Islam Firoz and Murshida Khatun (both BNP leaders denied party nomination), Islami Andolan's Ahmad Abdul Jalil, Jamaat's Md Abu Talib, Jatiya Party's Emdadul Islam Bacchu, independent Obaidul Haque Russell, Ganoforum's Khonia Khanam, and independent Mir Aminul Islam.
District Election Officer Md Abul Hossain said 32 nomination forms were collected across the four constituencies, of which 27 were submitted. Scrutiny of the papers will continue until January 4.
