With his contract set to expire, Bangladesh national team midfielder Shamit Shome is entering a crucial phase of his career, as questions grow over where the Canada-based footballer will head next.
Shamit Shome’s contract with Canadian Premier League side Cavalry FC ends on Wednesday (December 31, 2025), officially making the 28-year-old midfielder a free agent.
From Thursday onward, he will be without a club, opening the door to new possibilities both at home and abroad.
Shamit has spent nearly a decade playing professional football in Canada. He began his career in 2016 with FC Edmonton and has since been a familiar face in the league.
After becoming a free agent at the end of the 2021 season, he joined Forge FC in 2022 before moving on loan to FC Edmonton and later signing for Cavalry FC.
Despite the contract expiration, there has been little clarity so far about Shamit’s next destination.
The transfer market has also remained relatively quiet regarding his future. According to Transfermarkt, his current market value stands at around €175,000; roughly Tk 2.5 crore.
As a free agent, any club interested in signing Shamit would need to offer a salary close to his market valuation.
The central midfielder committed to representing the Bangladesh national team in April this year, a decision that drew significant attention.
At the time, reports suggested that at least one Bangladeshi club had shown interest in signing him.
However, Shamit’s agent had then stated that discussions over a club move would only take place after the expiration of his contract with Cavalry FC.
Now, with that chapter officially closing, all eyes are on where the experienced midfielder will land next as he weighs his options for the next step in his career.
