JASHORE, Dec 31: A festive atmosphere prevailed in Jashore as candidates submitted their nomination papers for six parliamentary constituencies ahead of the upcoming national election. Ignoring the biting cold, candidates and their supporters thronged the returning office from Monday morning and later submitted their papers to the officials concerned.
In the afternoon, BNP's heavyweight contender in the district and the party's acting organisational secretary for Khulna division, Anindya Islam Amit, submitted his nomination papers at the district returning office, accompanied by party leaders and activists. Candidates from Jamaat-e-Islami, Islami Andolon Bangladesh, Jatiya Party, JAGPA, AB Party, and several independents also filed their nominations.
The returning office premises remained crowded throughout the day as leaders and activists of different political parties gathered there. A total of 47 aspirants from different political parties, along with independents, submitted nomination papers in six constituencies. Many of them expressed optimism about victory and called for a free and fair electoral environment.
According to the district election office, 47 candidates filed nomination papers for six Jashore seats. Among them, 10 are from BNP, six from Jamaat-e-Islami, 10 independents, six from Islami Andolan Bangladesh (IAB), seven from Jatiya Party( JaPa), while one each from BNF, Basad, JAGPA, CPB, Khelafat Majlish and Minority Janata Party, and two from AB Party submitted nominations. Earlier, 71 aspirants collected nomination forms for these seats.
In Jashore-1 (Sharsha), nomination papers were submitted by JaPa's Jahangir Alam Chanchal, IAB's Fosiar Rahman, BNP's Nuruzzaman Liton, Jamaat's Muhammad Azizur Rahman, independents Shahjahan Ali and Abul Hasan Zahir, and BNP's Mofikul Hasan Tripti.
In Jashore-2 (Jhikargacha-Chowgacha), independent Mehedi Hasan, BNP's Ishaq, IAB's Idris Ali, JaPa's Firoh Shah, independent Zahurul Islam, BNF's Shamsul Haque, Jamaat candidate Mohammad Mosleh Uddin Farid, Basad's Imran Khan, AB Party's Ripon Mahmud, and BNP's Sabera Sultana submitted papers.
For Jashore-3 (Sadar), Jamaat candidate Abdul Kader, JaPa's Khabir Gazi, BNP's Anindya Islam Amit, CPB's Rashed Khan, IAB's Muhammad Shoaib Hossain, and JAGPA's Nizam Uddin Amit filed nominations.
In Jashore-4 (Bagharpara-Abhaynagar), independent M Nazim Uddin Al Azad, Ja Pa's Zahurul Haque, BNP's Advocate Syed A.H. Saberul Haque Sabu, Minority Janata Party's Sukriti Kumar Mandal, IAB's Bayejid Hossain, BNP's Matiar Farazi and TS Ayub, Khelafat Majlish's Asheq Elahi, Jamaat's Golam Kuddum, and independent Farhan Sajid submitted nominations.
For Jashore-5 (Monirampur), BNP's Rashid Ahmad, IAB's Zainal Abedin, independents Kamruzzaman, Shahid Iqbal Hossain, ABM Golam Mostafa, and Nazrul Islam, Jamaat's Gazi Enamul Haque, and JaPa's MA Halim submitted papers.
In Jashore-6 (Keshabpur), nominations were filed by JaPa's GM Hasan, IAB's Shahidul Islam, Jamaat's Moktar Ali, AB Party's Mahmud Hasan, and BNP's Abul Hossain Azad.
After submitting his papers, BNP leader Anindya Islam Amit told reporters, "I have submitted my nomination papers for Jashore-3 with senior party leaders, freedom fighters, July Movement activists, religious scholars, and representatives of the Hindu community beside me. We want to move forward positively. I hope the current Election Commission and the interim government will ensure a level playing field and a favourable environment for all candidates."
