62 candidates enter poll race in six Noakhali seats

NOAKHALI, Dec 31: A total of 62 candidates submitted their nomination papers in a festive atmosphere across six parliamentary constituencies in Noakhali for the upcoming parliamentary election.
Speaking to reporters on Monday evening, District Returning Officer and Deputy Commissioner (DC) Muhammad Shafiqul Islam said that 88 aspirants had collected nomination forms earlier, while 62 of them filed their nominations on the last day of submission.
According to the District Election office, 8 candidates filed nominations in Noakhali-1 (Chatkhil-part of Sonaimuri), 10 in Noakhali-2 (Senbagh-part of Sonaimuri), 7 in Noakhali-3 (Begumganj), 8 in Noakhali-4 (Sadar-Subarnachar), 15 in Noakhali-5 (Companiganj-Kabirhat and two unions of Sadar) and 14 in Noakhali-6 (Hatiya).
Among the candidates are six nominees from BNP and six from Jamaat-e-Islami. The Noakhali-6 constituency has drawn particular attention with two strong BNP rebel aspirants - former lawmaker Mohammad Fazlul Azim and former upazila BNP general secretary and district BNP member Engineer Tanvir Uddin Rajib - submitting nomination papers.
In addition, Kazi Mohammad Mofizur Rahman in Noakhali-2 and Hasna Jasim Uddin Moudud, wife of late BNP standing committee member and former minister Barrister Moudud Ahmed, in Noakhali-5, have submitted papers as independent candidates.
BNP's officially nominated candidates who filed nomination papers in the six constituencies are Barrister AM Mahbub Uddin Khokon for Noakhali-1, Zainul Abdin Faruq, Adviser to the BNP Chairperson, for Noakhali-2, BNP Vice-Chairman Barkatullah Bulu for Noakhali-3, BNP Vice-Chairman Mohammad Shahjahan for Noakhali-4, Fakhrul Islam for Noakhali-5, and Mahbuber Rahman Shamim for Noakhali-6.
According to the revised election schedule, scrutiny of nomination papers will take place from December 30 to January 4, 2026. Appeals against the returning officer's decisions can be filed from January 5 to 9, and these will be disposed of between January 10 and 18. The last date for withdrawal is January 20, while the final list of candidates and symbol allocation will take place on January 21.
