Jahangirnagar University (JU) has declared a one-day general holiday and decided to keep the national flag at half-mast for three days following the death of BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia.
University authorities confirmed the decision in a press release signed by Acting Registrar A B M Azizur Rahman on Tuesday.
According to the release, JU will suspend all classes and examinations on Wednesday (December 31). The university will also keep all administrative offices closed on the day.
The press release further stated that the Government of Bangladesh has declared a three-day state mourning from December 31 to January 2 following the death of the former prime minister. As part of the state mourning, JU will lower the national flag to half-mast across the campus during this period.
Authorities will also arrange special prayers seeking eternal peace for the departed soul of Begum Khaleda Zia.
JU will hold special doa after Jummah prayers at all campus mosques on Friday (January 2).
Authorities will also organise special prayers at other religious worship places on campus.
Notably, former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia passed away at 6:00 AM on Tuesday while undergoing treatment at Evercare Hospital in the capital.
