In the first six months of the current fiscal 2025-26 (July-December period), both commitments and disbursements from development partners have decreased. However, loan repayments have increased at the same time.
The Economic Relations Division (ERD) released this information on Wednesday. ERD data said, the government received loan commitments of $1.99 billion in the first half of the current fiscal year, compared to $2.298 billion in the same period of the previous fiscal year.
But commitments from development partners have decreased by 13.42 percent during the period in question. On the other hand, foreign loan disbursements have decreased by $1 billion in the current fiscal compared to the same period of the previous fiscal.
Foreign loan disbursements in the first half of last fiscal were $3.53 billion, which has decreased to $2.499 billion in the same period of the current fiscal year. Accordingly, disbursements have decreased by 29.23 percent.
However, during the same period, foreign debt repayments increased by 10.76 percent. ERD data shows, during July-November period of the last fiscal year, 1.98 billion was repaid to various development partners. This amount increased to 2.195 billion dollars during the same period of the current fiscal year.
