Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam on Thursday said the overall election situation is unlikely to deteriorate, as political parties have so far shown restraint and mutual respect.
Speaking at a press briefing at Foreign Service Academy in Dhaka following the Advisory Council meeting, Alam said the current electoral atmosphere is better than at any time in the past.
“The election situation this year will not be bad. Political parties are respectful toward each other and have shown sufficient tolerance so far,” he said.
Responding to a question, the press secretary noted that since the announcement of the election schedule, four people have been killed, compared with 115 deaths during the 2014 national election.
Referring to the killing of a Jamaat leader in Sherpur, Alam described the incident as an isolated one.
“We are making strong efforts to identify those responsible and the real perpetrators will not go unpunished,” he added.
