A woman was killed and eight others were injured in a road crash at Gobindaganj upazila of Gaibandha district on Saturday evening.
The deceased was identified as Alta Begum, 65, wife of late Azahar Ali of Puntair village under Mohimaganj union in the upazila.
According to sources, Alta, along with her family members, was returning home by a battery-run van from a ceremony.
The incident occurred in the Balkchar area on the Bogura-Rangpur Highway when a microbus hit their van from behind, causing Alta Begum to fall on the ground and she died on the spot.
Being informed, fire service officials rushed to the spot and recovered the body.
The injured were rescued and being taken to Gobindaganj Upazila Health Complex and later four of them were referred to Bogura Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital for better treatment.
Gobindaganj Highway Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Mozaffar Rahman confirmed the incident and said that the body has been handed to the deceased’s family.
