The Advisory Council on Thursday approved drafts of four ordinances, including the Police Commission Ordinance, 2025. The ordinance introduces a five-member Police Commission led by a retired Supreme Court judge.
Briefing reporters after the regular weekly Advisory Council meeting held at the Foreign Service Academy, Environment Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan announced the developments. Chief Adviser's Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam and Deputy Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad Majumder were also present at the briefing.

The meeting also approved drafts of the Representation of the People Order (RPO) (Amendment), 2025, the Forest and Tree Conservation Ordinance, 2025, and the Wildlife (Conservation and Security) Ordinance, 2025, relating to Bangladesh's forest, biodiversity, and wildlife protection.
According to the Police Commission Ordinance, 2025, the Commission will be chaired by a retired Supreme Court judge with experience as a district magistrate. Other members will include a serving government official not below Grade-I, a retired official of similar rank, a university professor (serving or retired), and an expert with at least 15 years of experience in human rights and governance.
Rizwana Hasan said the aim of the Police Commission is to make policing more public-oriented and free from external influence. The body will recommend measures to modernize the police, strengthen human-rights sensitivity, and improve training. It will also investigate citizen complaints against police and dispose of allegations of professional misconduct.
