Jahangirnagar University Debating Society (JUDS) is set to host one of the country’s most prestigious debate tournaments, the ‘JUDS National Debate Championship 2025’, on Friday.

JUDS President Ridwan Ahmed Rabbi announced the event details in the TSC conference room at a press briefing held at 7:30 PM on Thursday. A total of ‘64 teams’ from schools, colleges and universities across Bangladesh will compete.

In a written statement, Ridwan said that the entire championship will take place on the Jahangirnagar University campus.

He added that the tournament will offer talented young debaters a platform to demonstrate their logical reasoning, analytical capacity and contemporary knowledge.

The statement also highlighted the organisations supporting the event. ‘Mbrella’ is the T-shirt partner, while ‘Pubali Bank PLC’ will join as the strategic partner, assisting with the overall structure and management.

‘ACI Group’ is contributing as the goodies partner. ‘Aurora Specialised Hospital’ is providing logistic support, and ‘Concord Group’ is in charge of entertainment arrangements.

Food and beverage support will come from ‘Grill Garden’ (Food Partner), ‘Nestlé’ (Coffee Partner) and Jibon Drinking Water (Refreshment Partner). ‘Jamuna Television' and ‘TBS' have taken on media partnership roles, while ‘People’s Radio’ is serving as the radio partner. To increase youth engagement, ‘Clubhouse DHK’ will join as the engagement partner.

According to the organisers, the competition aims not only to crown champions but also to promote a rational, human and responsible young generation by integrating debate as a form of practical education.

Ridwan Ahmed Rabbi said, "32 school–college teams and 32 university teams will participate in this year’s event. The 'grand finale’ is scheduled for December 13."

"Our objective goes beyond selecting the best team—we want to nurture a thoughtful and empathetic generation through debate," he added.

Notably, founded in 1997, Jahangirnagar University Debating Society (JUDS) has played a significant role in advancing the culture of logical and progressive debate in Bangladesh.
