Jagannath University (JnU) has announced a revised schedule for the Central Students’ Union (JnUCSU) and hall council elections, setting December 30 as the new polling date.
Professor Dr. Mostofa Hasan, Chief Election Commissioner of JnU, confirmed the update to reporters on Thursday after a special syndicate meeting.
He said that according to the syndicate’s decision, JnUCSU election will be held on December 30. The university will reopen on December 8, during which remaining preparations will be completed and the commission is striving to ensure a free and fair election.
Under the revised schedule, candidates will undergo doping tests on December 9 and 10, followed by the publication of the final candidate list on 11 December.
Nomination withdrawals will be allowed on December 13 and 14 from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM and the updated list of withdrawn candidates will be released on December 14.
Election campaigning will run from December 15 to 27 and voting will take place on December 30, with results expected either on the same day or on December 31.
The rescheduling comes after recent disruptions at the university, including a holiday from November 23 to 27 due to earthquake fears and student demands, as well as a decision to hold online classes from November 30 to December 4.
During this period, the election commission had suspended doping tests and other key election activities, including the publication of the final candidate list.
