Miscreants set fire to a compartment of a local train in Mymensingh, burning several seats early Wednesday.
The incident occurred around 4:15 am at the wash pit near the Baghmara level crossing adjacent to Mymensingh Railway Station, where the train had been parked for cleaning.
Mymensingh Railway Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Akhtar Hossain confirmed the matter.
He said the coaches of the train were stationed at the wash pit for cleaning when miscreants set them on fire. Members of RNB, who were patrolling nearby, noticed the flames and managed to bring the fire under control shortly after. By then, seats numbered 27–32 in the coach had already burned.
OC Akhtar Hossain added that despite the incident, the train departed from Mymensingh Railway Station for Jaria in Netrokona with passengers at 6 am. Necessary actions will be taken regarding the incident, he said.
