LALMONIRHAT, Jan 29: Only two weeks after the electoral alliance with Jamaat-e-Islami collapsed, Islami Andolan Bangladesh Ameer Syed Muhammad Rezaul Karim has accused the party of spreading falsehoods.

Popularly known as Charmonai Pir, he said the Jamaat chief a penchant for taking selfies with women without veils while addressing an election rally at the BM College ground in Lalmonirhat's Hatibandha on Thursday.

"Why is Islami Andolan called extremist? We cannot say things like Jamaat's Ameer did, 'Boys, move aside; now girls, come ahead'," he said.

"Islami Andolan cannot do that. Well, is it us who distinguish between boys and girls, or is it Allah?" he asked.

He accused Jamaat's Nayeb-e-Ameer Syed Abdullah Muhammad Taher of portraying Islami Andolan as extremist and terrorist to the US, saying no major Bangladeshi party has ever labelled the country's groups as militants. "bdnews24
