After nearly two decades, BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman is set to visit Rangpur, sparking a wave of excitement across the divisional city and surrounding areas.
Preparations for the historic gathering, scheduled for Friday, have been completed within just one day to ensure its success.
Speaking at a press conference on Thursday at Rangpur Chamber of Commerce and Industry, BNP Central Organizing Secretary for Rangpur division, Asadul Habib Dulu, said the rally will be held at Eidganj Maidan in Rangpur.
“The arrival of our leader after 20 years has created unprecedented enthusiasm. We expect the entire city to be transformed into a sea of supporters on the day of the rally,” he said.
Highlighting the long-standing neglect of the northern region, Dulu emphasized BNP’s commitment to implement the long-awaited Teesta River project if the party comes to power.
He also outlined several other key promises, including reopening closed land ports, establishing new educational institutions at district and sub-district levels; especially one in memory of Shaheed Abu Sayeed and creating economic zones to boost regional development.
Addressing relations with other political parties, Dulu stated, “We do not intend to engage in conflict with Jamaat. Our goal is to participate peacefully in the upcoming elections. Our chairman has repeatedly said that the media is the pillar of a nation. Any party member found involved in harassment of journalists or any inappropriate act will face strict organizational action.”
Also present at the press briefing were BNP candidates for Rangpur’s six parliamentary seats, including Mokarram Hossain Sujon (Rangpur-1), Mohammad Ali Sarkar (Rangpur-2), Shamsuzzaman Samu (Rangpur-3), Mohammad Emdadul Haq Borsa (Rangpur-4), Golam Rabbani (Rangpur-5), Saiful Islam (Rangpur-6), along with various leaders from district and city BNP and its affiliated organizations.
