In a heartfelt tribute to Shaheed Sharif Osman Hadi, former Dhaka University student and journalist Tausiful Islam has named his newborn son after the slain hero.
Tausiful Islam shared the news on his Facebook profile on Saturday, posting a picture of his son and writing about the decision.
He noted that December 20 was also his first wedding anniversary, but the occasion could not be celebrated as he had just attended Hadi’s funeral, which drew millions of mourners.
Tausiful Islam recalled that his last conversation with Osman Hadi took place on December 5, a week before the attack.
At that time, he had asked Hadi to suggest a name of a preferred companion of Phophet (Sahabi) for his son. Hadi replied, “But the names of preferred companions are very common, brother.”
He added that after careful consideration, they decided to name their son Mahtim Osman Hadi, praying that the child grows up to be patriotic and steadfast in truth, just like Hadi. “Inqilab Zindabad,” he concluded in the post.
Sharif Osman Bin Hadi was critically injured on December 12 when assailants opened fire on him on Box Culvert Road in Dhaka's Puratan Paltan.
He was a key figure of Inqilab Moncho and a prospective independent candidate for Dhaka-8.
Hadi was initially treated at Dhaka Medical College Hospital and later at Evercare Hospital.
As his condition worsened, he was airlifted to Singapore on December 15, where he succumbed to his injuries last Thursday.
