The suspense-filled web film Omimangsito, directed by Raihan Rafi, is finally set to release on Monday (December 15), ending a long period of uncertainty over its release.

The film, inspired by real-life murder of a journalist couple in their own home, had been stalled for months due to censorship and legal complications.

A few days ago, the film’s cast shared a poster teasing the story, writing: “The mystery hidden behind faces is still waiting to be revealed.”

Following the announcement, fans were unsure if the film would meet its scheduled release date, but IceScreen has confirmed that it will be available to viewers on Monday.

Speaking to the media, director Raihan Rafi said, “Unless there is a major disaster in the country, Omimangsito will be released tomorrow. I hope this brings an end to the audience’s long wait.”

Originally, the film was scheduled to release on February 29, 2024. After the teaser’s release, the Bangladesh Film Censor Board required clearance even for OTT content.

In April of last year, after a two-step review, the board declared the film “not suitable for screening,” halting its release.

At that time, the board cited four main reasons for denying clearance, including the depiction of a brutal murder, a fictional story closely resembling real-life events, content overlapping with ongoing court cases and potential disruption to investigations.

The board also noted that the film contained elements listed in sections I, V, and VII of The Code for Censorship of Films in Bangladesh, 1985, making it unsuitable for public viewing under Section 16(5) of the Bangladesh Censorship Act.

The mystery-thriller stars Imtiaz Barshan and Tanzika Amin in lead roles. The trailer also features well-known actors such as Shahidul Alam Sachchu and Manoj Pramanik.
