Three years after his critically acclaimed film Hawa, filmmaker Mejbaur Rahman Sumon is back with a new cinematic venture, Roid, which has already created a storm on social media.

The trailer for Roid was unveiled in a grand event on Tuesday evening (December 16), immediately drawing widespread attention and discussion online.

Fans, critics and industry insiders alike are praising the film, with many suggesting that it could mark a new chapter in Bangladeshi cinema.

The trailer stands out for its striking visuals and atmospheric storytelling.

Instead of the usual commercial gloss, each frame exudes a muted intensity, dominated by shades of grey and an air of mysterious suspense.

Natural sounds and character sighs replace dramatic background music, creating an immersive, almost haunting experience.

Actors Nazifa Tushi and Mostafizur Noor Imran appear in dramatically transformed roles.

Tushi is seen in a simple sari, her expressions reflecting melancholy and unspoken pain, while Imran’s rugged, intense look hints at something ominous unfolding on screen.

Dialogue is minimal but impactful, hitting with precision like arrows.

Many viewers have compared the cinematography to the nuanced aesthetic of Malayalam art films, highlighting its visual sophistication and attention to detail. Scenes involving fire, light and shadow have particularly impressed audiences.

Following the trailer release, social media reactions have been overwhelmingly positive.

Netizens described it as “like watching a Malayalam film trailer in Bangla; pure fire!” and praised the cinematography, noting how each frame seems to tell a unique story.

Some even remarked that Roid could set a historical benchmark for Bangladeshi cinema.

The trailer launch event was attended by the film’s cast and crew, including Mostafizur Noor Imran, Nazifa Tushi, Gazi Rakayet and Ahsabul Yamin Riyad.

With Roid, Sumon has once again raised audience expectations to new heights, following the success of Hawa.
