Watermelon farming starts at Amtali

AMTALI, BARGUNA, Jan 27: Watermelon cultivation is going on in full swing in Amtali Upazila of the district.

According to field sources, growers are passing their busy time with farming activities. All members of farming families including women are working in fields.

According to sources at the Amtali Upazila Agriculture  Office, this year watermelon cultivation has been fixed at 5,345 hectares (ha) of land in the upazilas Atharogachhia, Holdia, Sadar, Chawra, Kukua and Gulishakhali unions.
Yusuf Peda of Kukua Village said, he is cultivating watermelon on 16 acres of land. Bahdur Mridha of Saheb Bari said, he is cultivating nine acres.

Amtali Upazila Agriculture Officer Md Musa said, block supervisors are regularly monitoring fields. The agriculture office will always be with growers, he added.
