KAMALGANJ, MOULVIBAZAR, Apr 27: A Norwester wind on Friday late night vandalised over 100 houses, uprooted trees and electric poles in Kalamganj Upazila of the district.
The wind hit the upazila at about 3am, and, since then, the electricity supply has been disrupted in different areas of the upazila.
The wind also coupled hailstorm.
A visit found damaged houses, uprooted trees including bamboo; over 50 houses were damaged at Patanusha Union; victim families are living under sky.
Those who have lost their houses at Patanusha are Moynul Mia, Kushuba Begum, Lipi Begum, Rahman Mia, Sufian Mia, Kalam Mia, Anu Mia, and Fakhrul Mia.
They said, "Our houses were flown away in sighting moment at about 3am. Now we are living under the open sky. If we don get assistance, we will have to stay on roads."
Patanusha Union Chairman Ali Ahmad Khan said, "In our union, many houses were damaged by Norwester. Many families are living under the open sky."
Deputy Manager of Palli Bidyut Office-Moulibazar Golam Faruq Mir said, the wind has damaged transmission lines; several electric poles collapsed; now repairing is going on.
Kamalganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer Joynal Abedin said, "Local chairmen have been instructed to give us a list of victims. They will be assisted rapidly."
