Rebel used to sell drugs in guise of singer

Arrested Enamul Kabir Rebel was trading drugs in guise of a singer, said police on Saturday (April 27).

He was arrested with dangerous drug crystal meth, commonly known as ICE, worth Tk 1 crore from Rampura area in Dhaka on Friday night.

Addressing a press conference early Saturday afternoon, DMP Khilgaon Zone's additional deputy police commissioner Md Rashedul Islam said Rebel mainly used to work for drug dealer Md Ripon alias Litu alias Bhaijan. Following the arrest of Rebel, a raid was conducted at Litu's residence. Though Litu was not found during the drive, various evidence and drugs were seized from the residence.

Rashedul Islam also said Litu's car driver and Rebel used to assist him (Litu) in his drug trading. Rebel has been working for Litu over the last five years. Rebel got acquainted with Litu at a function. Later, they developed friendly relationship.

Meanwhile, Rebel was placed on remand by a court in Dhaka.

Dhaka's Metropolitan Magistrate Shakil Ahmed placed Enamul Kabir Rebel, a singer of 'Uchcharon Band', on a two-day remand on Saturday (April 27), police said.

Earlier, investigation officer of the case sub-inspector Zahirul Islam produced the accused before the court and sought to place him on a seven-day remand.

On the other hand, lawyer representing the accused pleaded to the court for his client's bail revoking the remand order.

Hearing both sides, the court placed him on a two-day remand for questioning.

Some three or four were involved in the incident, police search is on, said Dhaka Metropolitan Police on Saturday.

A case was filed on Friday night in this connection where three people were made accused.
