Court of Inquiry to probe BD national’s death along border

A Staff Court of Inquiry has been constituted to investigate the circumstances under which the said Bangladeshi national died on Bangladesh-India border on Saturday.

The Indian High Commission in Dhaka said this on Sunday quoting Border Security Force (BSF) regarding reports about the death of a Bangladeshi national on May 14 on the India-Bangladesh border (West Bengal).

BSF has also confirmed that seven BSF personnel who could be connected with the incident have been suspended to facilitate investigation and the inquiry by the court.

The Indian government reiterated its commitment to upholding the provisions of the Comprehensive Border Management Plan so as to secure peace, safety and security on the India-Bangladesh border and thus achieving the goal of bringing the number of fatal incidents on the border to zero.

On reports in the local media about apprehension of some Bangladeshi nationals on May 14 on the India-Bangladesh border (Meghalaya), Border Security Force has conveyed that the apprehended Bangladeshi nationals were handed over to the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) on Sunday after due legal formalities.
