Veteran journalist Madan Shahu breathed his last at Birdem Hospital in the city on Sunday.
He was 77.
Shahu was suffering from ailments related to the lungs.
Madan Shahu, known to his friends and colleagues alike as Madan-da, had a long career in journalism.
He joined the then Pakistan Observer as a Reader in the 1960s and went on serving at the newspaper when after liberation it became the Bangladesh Observer. In the early 1990s, he joined the Daily Star when it was founded by the late SM Ali and served with distinction in different departments of the newspaper till he retired in 2015.
At the time of his death, Shahu was associated with the weekly journal First News.
Madan Shahu, whose father was martyred by the Pakistan occupation army in 1971, was a connoisseur of music and was considered an expert on movies produced in the subcontinent. At one stage of his life, he even wrote the script for a film.
Shahu leaves behind his wife, children and vast numbers of friends and fans to mourn his passing.
