GAIBANDHA, May 12: Speakers at a function here on Wednesday underscored the need for ensuring healthcare services to the char people of the district to reduce the infant and mother mortality rate.
An emphasis should also be given to conduct the family planning activities among the char people here through joint efforts of all concerned departments, they opined.
They made the comments while addressing a coordination meeting with the Government of Bangladesh and other stakeholders at the training centre of a non-government organisation at Madnerpara under Fulchhari upazila here on Wednesday noon.
Friendship, a reputed national NGO, arranged the function under Healthcare Nutrition and Population Programme funded by Emirates.
Fulchhari Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Masudur Rahman Mollah addressed the meeting as chief guest and Deputy Director of the Family Planning Department Dewan Morshed Kamal was present as guest of honour. Civil Surgeon (CS) Dr. Nirmalendu Chowdhury presided over the function.
Sadar Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer (UHFPO) MA Khan, Shaghata UHFPO Dr. ABM Abu Hanif and Fulchhari UHFPO Dr. Mokaddes Ali were present at the event as special guests.
The function was also addressed, among others, by Team Leader of Outreach Health of Friendship Dr. Robiul Alam, District Coordinator Abdus Salam, Project Coordinator Akmal Hossain, and journalist Sarker M. Shahiduzzaman.
Earlier, Programme Specialist of Hospital Services Dr Mohammad Atiqullah Sayed presented the healthcare services being provided by Friendship for the char people here elaborately through multimedia projector.
Dr. Sayed said a total of 1,38,000 char beneficiaries out of 1,81,066 ones got medical services from the Friendship in 2015 side by side with receiving other education, good governance, and disaster related services.
Fulchhari UNO Masudur Rahman Mollah, in his speech, assured all of giving all sorts of administrative help to run the health and family planning activities smoothly in char areas to achieve sustainable development goal.
CS Dr. Nirmalendu Chowdhury in his concluding speeches urged all to be more serious and professional to provide the healthcare and family planning services to the char people.
Among others, officials of upazila family planning, health and other offices and journalists took part in the meeting.
