SYLHET, Jan 31: The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has recovered 25 power gel sticks and 27 electric detonators from an abandoned school building in Sylhet's Kanaighat Upazila, materials the force described as being used to make "high-grade explosives".
The items were recovered on Friday night from inside a deserted building of Kuorer Math Government Primary School in Dighirpar Union, according to RAB-9 Additional Superintendent of Police and media officer KM Shahidul Islam Sohag.
Speaking to reporters on Saturday afternoon, Shahidul said the seized items are typically used in the manufacture of high-intensity explosives. However, no one linked to the explosives could be identified or arrested immediately after the recovery.
He said RAB-9 has launched an investigation into the incident to determine who stored the explosive materials and for what purpose.
"Preliminary assessment suggests the power gel and electric detonators may have been kept there for use in sabotage," Shahidul said.
He added that the recovered items have been handed over to Kanaighat Police Station for legal proceedings.
