5 killed as dump truck runs over van in Naogaon

Five passengers of a van were killed as dump truck smashed the vehicle in Naogaon's Mohadebpur upazila early Saturday.

The accident occurred at about 4:30AM in the Pathkathi area of the upazila.

The deceased could not be identified immediately.

According to eyewitnesses and police, a group of farmers was travelling to Mahadebpur hat by a battery-run van When the vehicle reached Shibpur area, a sand-laden dump hit the vehicle loosing control, leaving two dead on the spot.

Critically injured three others were rescued and rushed to the Mahadebpur Upazila Health Complex where they succumbed to their injuries later.

Mahadebpur police said that the driver of the truck fled the scene leaving his vehicle.

Legal steps are under process, police added.
