Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) executive member Sarbamitra Chakma has decided to step back from his resignation decision, giving importance to students' desire.
Earlier, he had announced his resignation amid criticism over several controversial actions, including making children do sit-ups by holding their ears.
Sarbamitra Chakma himself confirmed the matter to media around 10:30AM on Sunday (February 1).
When asked about the resignation, the DUCSU member said that he has to prioritise the interests of the students above all. Even those who are not involved in politics, have urged him not to listen to provocations from opposing political groups and have expressed their full support for him.
He further added, several female students wereharassed by outsiders on Saturday and the day before yesterday. As a result, a kind of mistrust has developed among students towards the administration. The administration’s failure has become evident to them, which is why they do not want him to step down from his responsibilities.
