Two individuals, including a police constable were arrested with drugs in a joint operation at Dharmapasha upazila in Sunamganj district on Friday.
The arrested individuals are police constable Samrat Ali, a resident of Maflar village of Nakhla upazila in Sherpur district and currently stationed at nearby Madhyanagar Police Station; and Suman Chandra Sarkar, son of Nantu Chandra Sarkar from Birampur village under Chamardani union of Madhyanagar upazila in the district.
The operation took place around 9:30 AM near the Sunoi Bridge under Paikurati union in the upazila, where the army, working in coordination with local authorities, apprehended the duo. Three others managed to escape during the raid.
During the raid, authorities recovered 19 pieces of Yaba pills and one packet of heroin.
Additionally, they seized two accounts ledgers for heroin sales, two measuring machines for heroin, Tk 5,500 in cash, four mobile phones and two motorcycles.
Both suspects were handed over to Dharmapasha Police Station for legal action.
Dharmapasha Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Mohammad Shahid Ullah told The Daily Observer that the two detainees are currently in police custody and will be presented before court on Saturday for further legal proceedings.
