Joint forces have arrested 504 people across the country over the past week in connection with various criminal activities, seizing illegal firearms, ammunition, explosives, local weapons, and narcotics during the operations.
The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) directorate confirmed the development in a press release issued on Friday.
According to the ISPR, the Bangladesh Army is carrying out its responsibilities with the highest level of professionalism, discipline, and dedication to maintain overall law and order amid the prevailing situation in the country.
As part of these efforts, units under various infantry divisions and independent brigades of the Army conducted joint operations from January 23 to 29 in coordination with other law enforcement agencies in different parts of the country, including the capital.
The press release said that a total of 504 suspected criminals were arrested red-handed during the joint operations.
Those detained include alleged terrorists, drug traffickers, drug users, members of robbery gangs, juvenile gang members, and smugglers. The seized items included 48 illegal firearms, 75 rounds of various types of ammunition, 95 crude bombs (cocktails), locally made weapons, and narcotics, the ISPR said.
The detainees have been handed over to the respective local police stations for necessary interrogation and legal proceedings, the release added.
The ISPR further said that the Bangladesh Army is regularly conducting patrols and security operations in different regions to ensure public safety nationwide.
At the same time, the Army is performing its duties appropriately to control labour unrest in industrial areas.
Such activities will continue to help maintain overall law and order in the country. Members of the public have been requested to inform the nearest army camp if they notice any suspicious or unusual activities.
