FENI, Jan 30: A Feni court on Thursday sentenced three men to death for abducting and murdering a 10-year-old fourth-grade student Ahnaf Al Main Nashit.
In addition to the death sentence, each convict was fined Tk 1 lakh, with an additional six-month- imprisonment in the case of non-payment.
Judge A N M Morshed Khan of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal announced the verdict at 12:30 pm. The convicts are Ashraf Hossain Tushar, 20, Mobarak Hossain Wasim, 20, and Omar Faruk Rifat, 20. The accused were brought to court from prison around 11 am and reportedly displayed arrogant behaviour towards journalists before being sent back to jail following the verdict.
According to the court, Nashit was abducted on December 8, 2024, while returning home from prayers at Baitul Khayer Jam-e-Mosque in Feni's Academy area. Tushar and his accomplices took him to Dewanganj, rendered him unconscious, and demanded Tk 12 lakh from his father, Main Uddin Shohag. The boy was eventually strangled to death, and his body was left near railway tracks. Police later recovered his body along with his school bag from a pond in Dewanganj based on information provided by Tushar.
Nashit's father had filed a missing person report the following day, leading to the arrest of the three suspects.
