Ahead of the 13th Jatiya Sangsad Election and Referendum-2026, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) platoons have been deployed as mobile and striking forces in different districts of the country including Narayanganj, Habiganj, Dinajpur, Feni, and Joypurhat.

NARAYANGANJ: The Narayanganj Battalion under the Dhaka Sector, BGB-62, held a media briefing on Friday.

The briefing stated that ahead of the election, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) is fully prepared and remains in a neutral and professional position to perform its duties.

They have started working to ensure a peaceful and fear-free environment during the election. The BGB warned that they would strictly monitor those who create disorder according to the law.
On Friday afternoon, at the office of the Narayanganj Battalion under BGB-62, the commanding officer, Lt. Colonel Mirza Mohammad Arafat, said that by strictly following all the instructions of the government and the Election Commission, a safe, peaceful, and fear-free environment for voters would be ensured. At the same time, BGB will work on the ground in coordination with other law enforcement forces.

Security in border areas has been strengthened in view of the election. Patrols and intelligence activities have been increased to suppress all types of crimes, including smuggling, drug and arms trafficking.

From the upcoming February 1, BGB will be fully deployed across the country. As part of this, the Narayanganj Battalion will perform duties in 17 upazilas across four districts. A Quick Response Force will be ready to handle emergencies.

HABIGANJ: BGB platoons have been deployed to ensure overall security in the district's four parliamentary constituencies.

Under the Habiganj Battalion (BGB-55), 17 platoons are now on duty across nine upazilas to enable voters to exercise their rights peacefully.

Temporary checkpoints have been set up along major roads, entry points, and near polling stations to maintain law and order. BGB personnel are conducting regular searches and patrolling border areas while intensifying intelligence surveillance to prevent any unlawful or disruptive activity that could hamper the election process.

BGB sources said the deployed personnel are coordinating with other law enforcement agencies to secure 647 polling centres across the nine upazilas. Base camps have been set up in each upazila, from where the platoons are operating. During the election period, the BGB is working closely with district and upazila administrations, the army, police, and other security forces to maintain a peaceful election environment.

Lt. Colonel Md. Tanzilur Rahman, Commanding Officer of Habiganj Battalion (55 BGB), said, "Our main priority is to ensure voter safety, maintain a peaceful environment at polling stations, and conduct free, fair, and impartial elections. BGB will remain on high alert throughout the election period."

The visible presence of BGB has reassured local voters, many of whom said the strong security arrangements have given them confidence to cast their votes without fear. According to government and Election Commission directives, BGB is fully prepared to ensure the elections proceed in a safe and festive atmosphere.

DINAJPUR: A total of 37 BGB platoons have been deployed as mobile and striking forces across the six parliamentary constituencies of Dinajpur District.

The information was disclosed at a press briefing on Thursday afternoon regarding the deployment of BGB and the establishment of base camps in Dinajpur. The briefing was addressed by Lt Col Abdullah Al Muhit, commanding officer of BGB-42.

He said that as a professional, disciplined and neutral force, the BGB would work with utmost responsibility to ensure a peaceful environment during the election, maintain law and order, and safeguard voters' rights. All directives issued by the government and the Election Commission would be strictly followed, and the BGB would play a supportive role in ensuring equal opportunities for all candidates and political parties.

Lt Col Abdullah Al Muhit added that, in coordination with other law enforcement agencies, the BGB would remain on duty to ensure that voters can cast their ballots in a fear-free environment. At the same time, security measures have been strengthened along the border areas to prevent smuggling, illegal infiltration, and trafficking of drugs and arms in connection with the election.

He said that, as part of the election-related security arrangements, search operations are being conducted at 10 permanent and temporary checkpoints in the border areas under the jurisdiction of BGB-42 in Dinajpur. Over the past two months, the BGB has recovered smuggled goods and narcotics worth around Tk 17.57 lakh and arrested 56 suspects.

From February 1, the BGB will be deployed in full force for election duties. Reconnaissance of all 844 polling centres across the six constituencies of Dinajpur District has been completed, and 13 base camps are being set up in different upazilas. As part of this initiative, work is currently underway to establish a base camp at KBM Collegiate High School in the Dinajpur town.

FENI: A total of 18 platoons of BGB have been deployed in the district. They began their work on Thursday afternoon.

BGB-4 Feni informs that on the occasion of the upcoming election, a total of 18 platoons of BGB have been deployed in the six upazilas under three parliamentary constituencies of Feni District, under the responsibility of the Feni Battalion (BGB-4).

The deployed platoons will perform their duties by operating from five temporary base camps in the electoral areas, conducting robust patrols in key locations, search operations through temporary check-posts, and patrolling to secure polling centres. Among these, BGB will operate independently in three border upazilas, and will perform duties jointly with the army, police, RAB, Ansar, and other law enforcement agencies in the remaining three upazilas. They are conducting awareness-raising meetings to encourage and increase public awareness about participating in the election.

Lieutenant Colonel Mosharraf Hossain, the commanding officer of the Feni Battalion (4 BGB), stated that BGB is tirelessly working in border security, preventing smuggling, maintaining internal law and order, and various public welfare activities.

BGB is constantly working to ensure that miscreants cannot destabilise the country's peaceful environment during the election period. Additionally, it is recovering illegal weapons in the border areas, he added.

JOYPURHAT: The BGB has intensified patrol in Joypurhat's border areas to maintain law and order situation and ensure voters can exercise their rights safely.

Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday at the Nakurgachi BGB check-post on the Panchbibi-Hili road, 20 BGB Commander Lt Col Latiful Bari said the force would play an active role in safeguarding law and order during the polls.

He added that every BGB member would act with complete neutrality, following all government and Election Commission guidelines, and ensure a level playing field for all political parties and candidates. The force will coordinate with other law enforcement agencies to maintain a secure, peaceful, and fear-free environment for voters.

Lt Col Bari noted that over 37,000 BGB personnel would be deployed nationwide for the elections. Out of 495 upazilas, BGB will serve in 489, with six upazilas excluded, and will take sole responsibility for election security in 61 border upazilas.

In Joypurhat, the BGB-20 Battalion will deploy adequate personnel in the district's two constituencies. In addition, sufficient members will be deployed in three unions of Joypurhat Sadar Upazila and Panchbibi Upazila to ensure smooth polling. Over 500 BGB members will be assigned election duties, with doc squads already conducting searches in border vehicles.
