A young man, accused in six cases, was beaten to death in a mob attack Noakhali's Kabirhat upazila on Saturday night.
Deceased Mizanur Rahman Rony, 35, was son of Md Shahid.
The attack took place in front of Kazi Bari near Kalirhat bazar of the upazila.
A group of youths later distributed sweets in the local market after branding the victim a robber.
According to local residence, Mizanur Rahman was accused in six cases related to robbery, arms and attack on government officials. At about 8PM, a electioneer meeting of BNP was undergoing at Kalirhat bazar where Mizanur was present. At one stage, a feud ensued between the BNP men and Mizanur and he was chased.
Later he was beaten to death by some villagers with sticks and iron.
Getting information, police recovered the body. A blood-ridden stick and a iron were also seized from the scene.
A toy pistol and a knife were found inside Mizanur's pocket, said Kabirhat Police Station OC Md Nizam Uddin Miah. ''Legal step will be taken after getting complaint.''
