Inqilab Moncho have alleged that the killing of Shaheed Osman Hadi was backed by an enormous financial investment, accusing powerful forces of shielding the real perpetrators and undermining Bangladesh’s sovereignty.
Inqilab Moncha member secretary Abdullah Al Jaber made these remarks at the base of Anti-Terrorism Raju Sculpture at Dhaka University’s TSC area after Jummah prayers.
He said the killers “did not just shoot Osman Hadi's head, they shot at Bangladesh, its flag and its sovereignty.”
He claimed that although a hearing was held a day earlier to review the charge sheet in the murder case, none of the main accused were included.
“We understand who is trying to protect them. If the state does not shelter them, they will have nowhere to hide,” he said.
Referring to past actions by law enforcement, Al Jaber noted that over the last 17 years the state had tracked down opposition figures even if they were hiding deep underground.
“Yet those who killed Shaheed Osman Hadi are still inside the country. Every state institution is trying desperately to protect them,” he alleged, adding that this was why people had taken to the streets demanding justice.
Questioning the financial aspect of the killing, he said murder does not require such vast sums of money.
“A killing can be carried out with a small amount. So the question is; where did these hundreds of crores go, who invested it and for what purpose?”
He also raised concerns over inconsistencies in the charge sheet, stating that authorities had acknowledged the presence of five teams on the day of the incident, yet only four individuals were named.
“Only those who fired the shots have been included. What about the other groups? We demand answers,” he said.
Al Jaber further questioned claims that a 21-member team planned the attack at Inqilab Cultural Centre on the 5th of the month.
“If that is true, why does the charge sheet only mention Faisal, Masud and Alamgir? Where are the remaining members of that team?” he asked.
Concluding his speech, Al Jaber alleged that senior state officials might also be complicit in the injustice.
“Even after the martyrdom of Osman Hadi, this struggle will continue on the soil of Bengal,” he said.
