One dies; another beaten for chanting 'Joy Bangla'

A man died while another was beaten and handed over to police for chanting 'Joy Bangla' during the funeral prayers of BNP Chairperson and former prime minister Begum Khaleda Zia on Manik Mia Avenue on Wednesday.

According to police, the deceased was identified as Md Nirab Hossain, 56.

Eyewitnesses reported that around 10:00 am, a man identified as Subal Mia, 35, chanted the slogan on Manik Mia Avenue, triggering immediate anger among some attendees.

Witnesses said a group of people detained Subal Mia and subjected him to a mob beating.
