Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) has removed a total of 148 tonnes of waste from the 300 Feet area of the capital following a large public reception organised to mark the homecoming of BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman.
According to DNCC, a special cleanliness drive was launched from Saturday morning to clear the waste generated at the rally venue, where a massive gathering took place on May 25. As many as 350 DNCC cleaners took part in the operation.
During the drive, waste was collected and transported in 20 trucks, making 148 trips to safely dump the garbage at the Aminbazar landfill. DNCC officials said the entire area was cleaned and made suitable for public movement by noon.
Local BNP leaders and activists voluntarily joined the DNCC cleaners from around 10:00 AM, assisting in the cleanliness operation.
DNCC Administrator Mohammad Azaz expressed his appreciation to the sanitation workers for swiftly completing the task and thanked BNP leaders and activists for their cooperation.
“Civic services become more effective when political activists work alongside city authorities for the greater public good,” he said.
It is worth noting that BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman returned to Bangladesh after nearly 17 years, drawing a huge turnout at the reception programme. To ensure environmental cleanliness after the large gathering, DNCC immediately undertook the special waste removal operation.
