Pneumonia patients on rise in Sirajganj

SIRAJGANJ, Mar 23: Warming at day and cooling at night are causing different cold diseases in the district, affecting mostly children and adults.

This situation has been continuing in different upazilas of the district for the last two weeks. Along with one affected member of a family, others are getting affected.

The fever has been lasting for 10-12 days instead of normally three days.

In addition to government hospitals, cold disease patients are crowding private hospitals, clinics, and physicians chambers.

Assistant Lecturer (Child) of Shahid M Mansur Ali Medical College Dr Aminul Islam Sheikh said, most children are suffering from severe fever; their temperature is going up to 104-1050F; normal fever is cured after three days; but patients carrying symptoms of sneezing and coughing are coming to the hospital.

A father Ali Akbar came to Outdoor of 250-Bed Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib General Hospital with his six-year-old fever affected son Shafin Ahmed. He said, his son has been suffering fever for two days.

"I am in tension with him. Earlier, my wife and I suffered fever and coughing for ten days."

Supervisor of the hospital Dr Ratan Kumar Ray said, during other time of the year per day 400-500 patients come for treatment; at present per day 800 patients are coming daily; most of them are affected by fever, coughing and pneumonia.

Due to rough weather, people are getting exposed to fever, coughing, tough breath, asthma, and pneumonia, he added.

Abu Hasnat, 46, of Garamasi Village in Belkuchi Upazila said, he has been suffering from fever and sneezing for about ten days. Firstly he received local treatment, but it did not cure him; later on, he went to a private hospital doctor. Along with him, more than three members of his family have been affected by the same disease.

Director of Shahid M Mansur Ali Medical College Hospital Dr Jahangir Alam said, in fact, the fever is not any disease; fever might develop if any germ infects body; infections of bacteria and virus cause fever in human body; due to temperature fluctuation of day and night, the virus fever has appeared; and through sneezing and coughing, the fever is spreading from one to another.

If the fever continues for more than three days, then it should not be neglected, but to be tested.

More awareness is needed for those children and adult people who are suffering from chronic diseases.
