Planning Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal inaugurated a digital billboard on electronic government procurement (e-GP) in the city on Wednesday.
The Central Procurement Technical Unit (CPTU) of the Implementation, Monitoring and Evaluation Division (IMED) of the Ministry of Planning, put the e-GP digital billboard on display near the National Press Club, said a press release.
After opening the digital billboard, the Minister told the media that the government wants to digitize all its activities. “It is the time of digitization,” he observed.
Since its launching in 2011, the billboard is digitally displaying the total number of tenders invited and their total estimated value under e-GP system. It will be continued till the end of the current month. Afterwards, the figures will be updated every month.
More than 50 thousand tenders with a total estimated cost of about Tk43,000 crore were invited through e-GP system until March 31, 2016 since 2011.
CPTU is implementing e-GP under a plan to connect all procuring entities to e-GP by December 2016. The billboard is installed as part of a country-wide social awareness campaign of CPTU.
Director General of CPTU Md Faruque Hossain, officials of CPTU, IMED, Ministry of Planning, will be present during the inauguration.
The display of the e-GP digital billboard in such an important area of the capital city is expected to draw attention of the public, other stakeholders of public procurement including policymakers, which may lead to an increase in awareness and support for the electronic procurement system.
At the moment 185 out of about 1233 government procuring agencies are connected to e-GP portal (www.eprocure.gov.bd).
