USAID official among 2 hacked dead in city

Two persons including an official of the USAID were hacked to death by unidentified assailants at Kalabagan in the capital on Monday evening.

One of the dead was identified as USAID official Julhas Mannan, 35. He was a cousin of former foreign  minister Dipu Moni. Another victim was Tonoy Majumder, believed to be a friend of Julhas. Xulhaz was also US ambassador’s ex-protocol officer.

The criminals also hacked a guard of the building, leaving him injured.

DMP deputy commissioner Abdul Baten confirmed the matter to the media.

Quoting injured security guard Parvez Mollah, DC said a group of 6-7 people came to an apartment at 35, Lake Circus near Tetultala field around 6pm in the name of delivering a parcel.

They went up to the first floor of the house and knocked the door.

Police, quoting guard Sumon,  said a gang of 5-6 miscreants stormed the first floor flat of Julhas at about 5pm. After sometime, the gang came out of the flat and and hacked another guard Parvez Mollah before leaving.
