Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid on Saturday said the distribution of textbooks free of cost and introduction of PSC and JSC examinations are playing important role in checking children's drop-out rate in primary and secondary schools. "The incumbent government has introduced primary education terminal examination and junior school certificate examination to upgrade the country's literacy rate to 100 per cent. When children of poor families come to their residence with PSC and JSC certificates, their guardians get inspired to educate their children further," he said. The minister was addressing a discussion on "Developing Reading Habit in Bangladesh: Progress and Responsibilities" at Bishwo Shahitto Kendro auditorium here to mark the World Book and Copyright Day. Bishwo Shahitto Kendro and Secondary Education Quality and Access Enhancement Project (SEQAEP) jointly organized the discussion with Bishwo Shahitto Kendro Chairman Professor Abdullah Abu Sayeed in the chair. ?BSS
