Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS) has raised gold prices by up to Tk4,082 per bhori, setting the price of 22-carat gold at Tk259,699 per bhori.
BAJUS announced the revised rates in a notification issued on Saturday night, saying the new prices will come into effect from Sunday (February 1).
Earlier on the same day, the association had reduced gold prices.
According to BAJUS, the price adjustment was made due to an increase in the price of refined (pure) gold in the local market.
The price hike comes despite a decline in international gold prices. Data from GoldPrice.org show that gold fell to $4,893 per ounce in the global market, down from $5,200 a day earlier and more than $5,550 on Thursday.
Under the new rates, 22-carat gold has been fixed at Tk259,699 per bhori, while 21-carat gold will sell at Tk247,918 per bhori. The price of 18-carat gold has been set at Tk212,518 per bhori and traditional gold at Tk173,910 per bhori.
Silver prices remain unchanged. The price of 22-carat silver stands at Tk7,290 per bhori, while 21-carat silver is priced at Tk6,940, 18-carat silver at Tk5,949 and traditional silver at Tk4,432 per bhori.
Last week, domestic gold prices reached a record high amid a surge in global prices.
On Thursday, BAJUS raised prices by Tk16,213 per bhori in a single adjustment, taking the price of 22-carat gold to Tk286,000.
The following day, prices were reduced by up to Tk14,600 per bhori.
