Dear sir,
Price hikes have become a national problem in Bangladesh. For most of the year, the prices of daily necessities remain beyond the reach of ordinary people. However, this problem becomes even more severe during the month of Ramadan. Every year, during Ramadan, the prices of fruits, vegetables, lentils, sugar, edible oil, chickpeas, spices, and other essential commodities rise noticeably.
Some unscrupulous traders hoard goods and create syndicates in the market. As a result, families living below the poverty line and many middle-class households, despite fasting all day, are unable to manage proper iftar and sehri. In a Muslim-majority country, such suffering of ordinary people during a sacred month like Ramadan is by no means acceptable.
So, strict enforcement of the law and exemplary punishment against black-marketeers and dishonest traders are essential. Moreover, essential commodities should be priced lower for poor families to ensure maximum benefit for them.
Therefore, to restore a sense of relief among the people by keeping market prices under control during Ramadan, we draw the kind attention of the concerned authorities.
