Jamaat-e-Islami has postponed a grand rally of the party’s women activists scheduled for Saturday in the capital, the party’s women wing announced on Thursday.

The programme was suspended due to unexpected circumstances, according to a statement posted on the women wing’s official Facebook page.

The rally was set to be the first of its kind organised by an Islamist party in Bangladesh. It was scheduled to begin at around 10:30 AM at Suhrawardy Udyan in Dhaka.

Earlier on Tuesday, Jamaat Nayeb-e-Ameer Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher had announced the rally in protest against what he described as continued harassment and intimidation of Jamaat women activists in different parts of the country by BNP.
