Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Habibur Rahman on Wednesday said all-out measures are being taken to help hold the upcoming January 7 general election in a peaceful manner averting any untoward incident.

"We got directives from the Election Commission to hold the election in a peaceful manner. We will extend all-out support as per the directives," he said.
The DMP chief was briefing journalists after a meeting with Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Habibul Awal and other commissioners on law and order situation in Dhaka region at Agargaons Nirbachan Bhaban.

He said the EC gave directives so that no chaos takes place and no third party can create any kind of violence during the election. It is very saddening to note that subversive activities are being carried out to create panic among the people ahead of the polls this time, he said.
