Saifuddin Ahmed Moni, general secretary of the Democratic League, passed away at a hospital in Bangladesh capital Dhaka on Friday. He was 68.
His elder brother Mainuddin Ahmed said that Saifuddin breathed his last at about 12:00 noon while undergoing treatment at Birdem Hospital in Mirpur.
Moni was a confirmed bachelor. He was one of the leaders of Chhatra Oikya formed with various student organisations at Dhaka University during the anti-autocratic movement in the 90s.
After the completion of his student life, Moni joined the Democratic League of Oli Ahmed and later became the general secretary of the party. His party is one of the components of the Jatiyatabadi Samamona Jote which has been carrying out a simultaneous anti-government movement with the BNP.
Mainuddin Ahmed said that Moni would be buried at his family graveyard at Maheshpur village under Ishwarganj upazila in Mymensingh district after his namaz-e-Janaza there.
BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir went to the Hospital after Moni's demise.
He talked to the relatives of the DL leader and conveyed his sympathy to them.
