Why should we reject results when there was no election at all: BNP

Not only the ruling Awami League, but also the over-enthusiatic 'Awami Law Enforcing Agencies' conducted the Chattogram City Corporation election, alleged BNP Standing Committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury on Wednesday.

"Election was not held at all. So, why should we say that we're rejecting the results? The election was not contested with a political rival. In fact, law enforcing agencies forced our agents to leave the polling centres," Chowdhury, who worked as the chief coordinator of the BNP's election supervising committee.
Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury made the remarks while addressing a press conference at the BNP's Chattogram City office Nasimon Bhaban premises on Wednesday evening following the conclusion of voting.

When asked what he would do if the BNP candidate Shahadat Hossain got elected in the polls, Chowdhury said, "Wish what you have said."

He, however, didn't say anything else about boycotting the election or rejecting the results.

Chowdhury alleged that Awami League occupied 500 centres hiring terrorists from outside. Some 200 leaders and workers of BNP were injured in the attacks by police and Awami League backed terrorists. A councillor candidate also came under attack. The terrorists had broken the hand of Ward No. 23 councillor candidate and physically assaulted many other candidates. Apart from vote rigging, they had resorted to repression on opposition candidates. And, the Election Commission (EC) worked as subservient to the terrorists.

"No election would be free, fair and impartial under this Awami League government. It has already been proved," he said.

Chowdhury said BNP took part in the election to bring the voting rights of people back as there is an unelected government in power. "This illegitimate government must have to be removed. We must fight for establishing democracy through an election under a neutral government," he said.
