Ctg city polls: Two killed, 28 injured In Pahartoli, a man was killed and 5 others were injured during a clash between the supporters of Awami league-backed councillor candidate Wasim Uddin and AL rebel candidate Mahmudur Rahman at 10:30am. The deceased was identified as Alauddin, a supporter of Mahmudur Rahman. Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) police outpost ASI Aladuddin Talukder confirmed the news. Earlier in the day, a Chhatra League activist, named Nizum Uddin Munna, was stabbed to death by his brother Salauddin Kamrul at one stage of altercation over the polls in Diamond Church Community Centre area. They were supporters of two different candidates. Moreover, two people were injured in a clash between supports of two rebel councillor candidates in front of a polling centre in Asadganj. The clash took place outside Asadganj Sobahania Alia Madrasa centre at around 8:30am on Wednesday, according to witnesses and police. The identities of the injured people could not be known yet. Meanwhile, twenty people were injured in a clash between the supporters of AL-backed councillors and rebel AL candidates in front of a polling centre in Lalkhan Bazar during the voting. The CCC returning officer Mohammad Hasanuzzaman postponed voting in two polling centres at ward no. 34 for vandalism and occupying the polling centres. An EVM machine was damaged at a centre. Police, however, detained BNP backed councillor candidate Mohammad Ismail Bali in connection with the vandalism. Chattogram Metropolitan Police Additional Deputy Commissioner Polash Kanti Nath said incidents of clash took place at a number of polling centres under ward no 34 in Patharghata around 12:15pm. On the other hand, BNP-backed mayoral candidate Shahadat Hossain alleged that their party agents have been drove out from all the polling centres. LY |
