Election Inquiry and Judicial Committee has issued a show-cause notice to Gono Odhikar Parishad President Nurul Haque Nur for allegedly violating the electoral code of conduct.
According to the notice, Nur has repeatedly shared false, baseless and misleading information about independent candidate Md. Hasan Mamun on social media during his campaign, which constitutes violations of Sections 15(a) and 16(g)(ch) of the Parliamentary Election Code of Conduct 2025.
The notice also cites an incident on January 26 at 8:00 PM, where Nur’s supporters allegedly vandalized Hasan Mamun’s Pagla Bazar office and Charborhan campaign office and injured his supporters. This, the notice states, breaches Section 6(a) of the same code.
Nur has been directed to appear in person or through a suitable representative at temporary office of Election Investigation and Judicial Committee at Dashmina upazila in Patuakhali district on Tuesday (February 3) to provide a written explanation.
Dashmina police have been instructed to deliver the notice to Nur immediately.
AKM Enamul Haque (Ratan), lawyer for Hasan Mamun, said that Nurul Haque Nur has repeatedly violated election rules by spreading false and misleading claims against Mamun and that his supporters have assaulted Mamun’s supporters and vandalized campaign offices.
“We have legally requested the election committee to take action and we hope for a fair investigation,” he said.
Attempts to reach Nurul Haque Nur by phone were unsuccessful.
Dashmina Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Hasanain Parvez confirmed that Nur has been formally notified of the notice.
